Schools in the Bargoed area
were invited to participate in the Art Society`s Schools Art
Competition. Twentyfour great prizes of art materials were up for grabs.
In addition Rolf Harries donated three signed art tuition books and for
the overall winner there was an engraved silver plate.
Thanks must go to Caerphilly Borough Council for funding the prize
giving ceremony at Llancaiach Fawr and to the National Assembly and
Communities First for donating the money for the prizes. Also to
Councillor Malcolm Parker, Chairman of Caerphilly County Borough Council
and The Mayor, Councillor Ann Green of Bargoed Town Council who both
presented the prizes.
The competition ran from the start of January until the
deadline in March. A panel of experts from the society judged the 1300
or so entries. The subjects were " Underwater" for Reception, Nursery
and infants and "Landscape" for the Juniors.
