I have always had a
flair for drawing and painting from early schooldays especially
later through the mid war years 1939-1945. I had quite a good
rapport with my art teacher who encouraged my interest.
I became a member of Bargoed &
District Art Society over 17 years ago. Since then ( self
taught) I have progressed and exhibited my work as an amateur
artist and enjoyed the company of like minded folk within the
society. I like to paint using all media and also to use a wide
range of subject matter : still life, flowers, landscapes and
historical buildings at home and abroad, and of course my
favourite Welsh mining collieries. The latter two I prefer to
depict in (sepia) water colour, reminiscent of old photographs.
Three years ago I returned to
school as a very mature student ( 70 yrs old) to do A level Art
and Design, which I passed with a good grade. Studied screen
printing, textiles and lino cuts. All very exciting but alien to
the way I usually worked. Nevertheless, all taught me discipline
and perspective and a new way forward.
I paint for my own pleasure
and maybe for those who view my work. So I hope you will like
and enjoy the examples that follow on this webpage.
